RE: What portal are you using?

I dunno, I've been using rv.net for awhile now and have never had any problems. I am surprised to hear that others have had trouble. Sorry to hear it. :h

If you don't get an answer, I'll bet you could "Google" it to find out. It's never failed me yet....

RE: Gas Milage Mods??

Well...I installed a K&N cold air induction system, $300, on my '05 HR Atlantis with the Ford V-10 engine and it was the best thing I could have done. I didn't get appreciably better mileage, but the performance increase was unbelievable! That alone was worth the cost, and I haven't had any trouble with oil getting on the MAP sensor. K&N says to clean the filter every 50k miles so that's not really a problem either. As others have said, having a light foot is the best thing for better gas mileage, 55 to 60 mph.

RE: Oil Change Myth?

I figured I might as well toss in my 2 cents worth, maybe one day I will get promoted to something other than a "new member." :D I have always felt that the 3000 mile oil change requirement was a lot of bunk fostered on the motoring public to sell more oil and nothing else. I usually go between 4000 to 5000 on my car and pickup and on the RV, I change it after a trip. The first one was 7500 miles and the second one 4500 miles. I haven't changed it yet after that trip and after reading all these posts, I don't think I will change it for a while. Ford says use a synthetic blend, but use full synthetic. One could maybe change the filter at 5000 miles or so, if one were so inclined, I guess. Anyhow, I guess it's up to the individual, isn't it?

RE: using a gps system in a class C

I am using a Tom Tom One in my Class C with no problem. It does take a minute or so to aquire the satellites when I first turn it on, but have never lost a signal while going down the road, but have never gone thru a tunnel, either. Get one, you'll be glad you did.

RE: Automatic Shoreline to Generator Transfer Switch

My Holiday Rambler Atlantis does it automatically. The default is the generator. If I'm on shore power and start the generator, it takes over and then I can unplug the shore power with no loss/interruption of power. As far as I know, it wasn't an option.

RE: E450 Cruise Control

I have a 2005 31 ft. HR Atlantis and installed the K&N Cold Air Induction System,($300 online), and it made all the difference in the world when going over an overpass. I couldn't believe the difference! Most can be traversed without the cruise down shifting. When I'm towing it down shifts more often, but that is to be expected. Mine will down shift when the speed drops approx. 2 mph, but then up shifts usually at the crest and maintains the set speed reasonably well. It sounds like yours could use some tuning.

RE: Is a 1999 VW Jetta stick shift flat towable?

Volkswagen will tell you no, but my parents tow a 2000 Jetta Wagon TDI with a stick, and haven't yet had any problems. Turn the ignition to accessory to make miles don't show on odometer and get the proper setup and you should be fine.
Well, bespinct, your the only reply I received. I personally couldn't see why one couldn't tow a stick shift safely. I appreciate your reply.

RE: Grrr, Oregon Gas Stations !

I don't know if you other drivers feel this way but I really don't like the fact that Oregon wont let you pump your own gas... Not only do they never really fill up my tank all the way but some dumb ass decided not to put my gas cap back on halfway home (only to be told so by then next gas pumper about 200 miles down the road)... Seriously, how hard of a job could that be, how could you forget to put the gas cap back on?
Grrr....
Mike, this has been going on for years and years. I '75 I was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, Wa. and was heading home for the holidays pulling a TT. Had two gas tanks. I stopped and started pumping gas, not knowing I wasn't supposed to. Admitedly, the attendant didn't take the caps off BUT, they were on the pump right by where the nozzle goes back in. The aux. tank filler neck was forward of the rear wheel, it was snowing. When I filled up on the other side of the state I found out there was water in the tank! Had to be towed, pay for a pump out and another tank of gas. Guess nothing has changed in umpteen years.

Thanks to all for your prompt and detailed responses. :)
I guess I didn't ask the right question when I did my search.

Preventive maintenance for Roof A/C's

I've searched and searched but could not find any questions on the above subject. What kind of preventive maintenance is required for RV roof air conditioners? Is there a more efficient filter available than the flimsy thing that comes with a new RV? Do I need to take the cover off and clean the coils? Where can I find some guidance? Thanks for any help or information.

RE: Any one else notice trucks going slower !

While driving on I-95 North in Florida I was constantly being passed, and not slowly. They blew by me! I was driving 60 and they had to have been going at least 70! Guess it depends on what part of the country your in. :@

Thanks for the map link Fred, and thanks to the rest of you for explaining the member levels. I'll probably never be a full member for several years yet, don't have that much time to spend in front of the computer. :W

Member Levels and Signature Maps

I am confused about member levels, I see new member, full member, etc., what does all that mean and how does one get promoted? What is one entitled to as a full member or senior member versus a new member?
Second question, where does on go to find the neat US map I see in members signature?
Thanks

RE: How do you wax/clean your Cab over area?

Rainex has new product out, Bug & Tar Pre-wash Gel. It's the first thing I've found that works. I had bug residue left over from a two month trip and then sat in the driveway several days with the sun shining on it before I could wash it. I used a scrub brush and car wash and wax solution for the first round and then sprayed the gel on and let it sit for about 15 minutes. I use the brush again and the residue was all gone! I got my bottle at Wal-Mart.

RE: Getting better mileage

I have a 2005 31 ft. HR Atlantis with the Ford V-10 engine. I added a K&N Cold Air Induction system and was absolutly amazed at the increase in power. I'm not sure if it gave me an appreciable increase in gas mileage, but driveability was vastly improved and it didn't downshift climbing overpasses like it did before the install. I'm not convinced that using premium gas will give one better gas mileage and definitely don't believe the difference in cost over regular will ever be recouped by an increase in mileage. As previously stated, keeping the speed down will do more than anything else to increase mileage.
